The International Cricket Council has today announced a number of rule changes – including a major change to one of the most controversial dismissals in the game.
A non-striker being run out of his crease by a bowler is now permitted after the rules moved from the "unfair play" section to the "run out" section. "A run-out to a non-striker for backing up too much will now be considered a regular run-out," the ICC said.
The dismissal was famously named the "minkid" after the Indian bowler who ran out Australian batsman Bill Brown in the 1948 Sydney Test, and has been used every time since. has sparked debate.
